Lakota Schools---Ceasing bus service???

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

After voters again rejected an operating levy earlier this month, officials have eliminated transportation for students in grades nine through 12, and students who live inside a two-mile radius of their school will no longer be eligible for public school transportation.
The changes are supposed to go into effect Jan. 18, 2011, officials said.

During the meeting, some parents spoke out about their concern for the students' safety while walking to school. Others asked how many buses would be cut and if there would be provisions made for children who choose to bike to school.

Officials told students and parents that the board must cut $12 million from the schools' budget if the levy failed.

So what do you think? Take the brief 4 question survey below. Feel free to oomment as well.

The school can't do it by themselves...the word of the day is sacrifice. Pay the extra 200 a YEAR not month for taxes to get your kids to school safe. One parent said you're gonna be guilty if my child gets killed walkin to school but the fact of the matter is that its your responsibility as a parent to make sure they are safe at all times...crazy!

now lil cousin i have to comment cuz my kids go to lakota schools and ima lil pissed about the bus service cuz i live far from the schools and i got two kids that go to two different schools an leave out a hour and a half apart so for those who feel its jus that easy to take their kids to school everyday and pick them up better be the ones whose kids better not b on nobodies bus.

@Amber... I understand that but you just moved there. This mess was before you got there so be mad at them. This is where you carpool...save the economy...lol! I say they need to take this opportunity to work with the public transit and bring the metro to this area as well. Something has got to GIVE! and we all know that money dont grow on trees. PASS YOUR LEVY...and get your buses back.

see...lol. It's a partnership...a give and take. Somebody has to pay for it. But you really have to ask yourself "where is all the money going?" the teachers aren't making that much. Parents are paying for extra activities for school. So I see the frustration of both the Parents and the Schools but all I'm saying is "Do something about it" and quit trying to place blame and guilt.

i feel you the levy had already failed by the time i got out here but definitely will do my part and get involved.

The extra money is going where it goes in most school systems. Administration. They feel like the do the most work so the feel like they are entitled the highest pay.
